Jayasuriya Kah & Co. is one of the oldest and largest law firms in state of Sabah, Malaysia.
About Us
Our firm was founded by the late Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Thomas Jayasuriya, who formerly served as an Acting State Attorney-General, a Sabah Cabinet Minister, and a Malaysian High Commissioner.
We commenced our operation in Kota Kinabalu (then known as Jesselton) in 1967 under the name “Thomas Jayasuriya & Co”. Two years later, Mr. John Kah joined the firm and the firm was subsequently renamed to “Jayasuriya Kah & Co.” as it is known today.
Our office is located in Wisma Sabah, a multi-storey building centrally located in the heart of the financial and commercial hub of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Since our establishment, we have not only grown in numbers, but we have also expanded in the scope of legal services that we offer.
Today, we have a team of over 50 personnel, including partners, legal assistants and support staff, providing legal services across a wide range of industries.
Our diverse client base include banking and financial institutions, governmental bodies, government linked companies, public listed companies, and individuals and corporations, both local and foreign.
We have represented clients in a wide spectrum of real estate transactions, complex lending arrangements, privatisation deals, joint ventures, acquisitions, and corporate restructuring, employment matters, among others.
In the litigation field, our firm handles disputes ranging from debt recovery to complex commercial litigation.
Our litigation lawyers have appeared in cases before the Magistrates’ Court, Sessions Court, High Court, Court of Appeal and Federal Court. We also provide legal services in Alternative Dispute Resolutions such as arbitration and adjudication.
Over the years, we have collaborated with leading Counsel from Peninsular Malaysia and Queen’s Counsel / King’s Counsel from England and Australia
While we are based in Kota Kinabalu, we also accept instructions from all over, and we appear in courts across all other districts in Sabah, such as Sandakan, Tawau and Lahad Datu
